Deformation of an elasto-plastic rectangular body in plane
strain
Overview. this 2D mechanical experiment displays an
uniaxial compression of an elasto-plastic body of 1X0.5 m. Shortening velocities are
1E-5 m/s on the left and right hand sides. Initial mesh and boundary conditions
are shown here. Experiment duration is 3600 s. Model parameters are defined in files
iessai
and jessai . A Von Mises
criterion is used with a yield stress of 100 MPa.
Results. The mesh is deformed very
inhomogeneously with well developped shear bands and almost undeformed areas
with rigid bloc motion (figure).
By contrast, second stress invariant does not vary much accross the medium
except close to the boundary conditions (figure).
